Makeup Books

5 Feb

Hi ladies,

These are a few of my favourite beauty books. I must say of all these, i think Real Beauty by Sonia Kashuk is the best. For those who may not have heard of her name, Sonia is a make up artist and owns an affordable make up line. She is also Cindy Crawford’s personal makeup artist and best friend. What’s great about her book is that it comes with a DVD. And it’s also the cheapest of the lot . Only RM 31.90 at Popular Bookstore ( i bought this years ago). I seriously hope her make up line will be brought to Malaysia soon.

I also like Kevin’s Perfect Beauty. He is a Taiwanese make up guru and his book showcases complete step to step guide. The books is a set of 2 and each costs RM45. He also included pictures of before and after of the models (and they look like ordinary people like you and me ) and yet the transformations were simply unbelievable. While most authors focused on their own products, Kevin actually used make up products like Shishiedo, Shu Uemura etc despite having his own line of make up. So I can totally relate to this. Im a junkie and never loyal to one brand!!

Looking Younger by Robert Jones is just too wordy for me. Not my cup of tea, i must say. Didnt enjoy it much. RM 74.88 at Kinokuniya.

About Face by Scott Barnes. I love this guy. Check out his videos on youtube which arent many. But the thing is, in this book, the makeup seemed too thick. It focuses more on photography make up i think and i just cant imagine piling that much on my face. The techniques seemed like a good idea though. He’s the reason Im using Maybelline’s Kohl eyeliner…hehe. Coz he recommended it 🙂
RM 98.48 at Kinokuniya.

Jemma Kidd Make Up Masterclass. This one is good. Covers everything about make up from A-Z . It explains all you need to know to acheive the flawless canvas with easy steps to create the perfect eyes, cheeks and lips. RM 99.77.

I dont think we need these books, now that there are plenty of make up videos on youtube. This was before i even discovered Lisa Eldridge and Scott Barnes ( check them out, seriously girls..) on the net. I was an amateur make up artist ( hahaha … i know i know.. a self-proclaimed makeup artist to be exact :P) at university and did my friends’ engagement and wedding make ups for free.
